FREEDOM! It’s God who sets us free.
Verse: Numbers 21:4-9
The Bronze Snake
4 They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea,[a] to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; 5 they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”
6 Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. 7 The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
8 The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.
Question: What happened to that bronze serpent?
A. the people named it and they carried it around for over 700 years! They even gave it a name!
But guess what happened to it….
2 Kings 18:1-4
Hezekiah King of Judah
18 In the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name was Abijah[a] daughter of Zechariah. 3 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father David had done. 4 He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it. (It was called Nehushtan.)
We all have a tendency to worship the bronze snake (our sin and those things that grip us and hold us in bondage).
If you want freedom we have to crush the feet of our serpents, we can’t make it a pet!
We can’t keep holding onto the things that hold us in bondage if we want freedom!
Examples:
-that one song that you used to play while partying or in some relationship and it causes you to try and remember that thing that you should forget.
-mind, much of our battle is in our minds and we need to learn to take captive our thoughts.
HOW TO:
We need to fix our eyes on Jesus not the little bit that we’ve left behind.
Letting our snakes go is not good enough, we need to crush it’s head and cut it off!
How about you? what’s been biting at your ankles? The enemy wants us to give him our heart and have the devotion that is only due to Jesus.
If this is a pattern why don’t we do this?
We need to confess our faults, acknowledge it, confess it and cut off the head then we pray.
ask yourself: Where am I not completely and entirely free?
Many came forward and confessed various snakes/sins and areas they are wanting freedom in from selfishness the pornography to self neglect, various fears and lusts.
